The Mountain

Left to right, the peaks of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV and Gangapurna all loom in the distance.

Annapurna IV is situated in a long ridgeline of peaks, each nearing 8000 meters in height. The Annapurna range is in Western Nepal and is home to the Annapurna sanctuary.  The 24,688′ peak of Annapurna IV was first climbed in 1955 by a German expedition led by Heinz Steinmetz, via the North Face and Northwest Ridge. The summit party comprised Steinmetz, Harald Biller, and Jürgen Wellenkamp.
